Precious Metal Hallmarking
Today, the two most common systems - karat and metric - are used to analyze items made from precious metal alloys.
Karat system is originating in Germany and used for gold alloys. The pure gold alloy contains 24 carats. Jewelry can be found in the following carat alloys 9,14,18 and 22.
1 carat contains 4.166% pure gold.
karat system can be converted to the metric system by following method e.g
14kX41,66=583,24 (583)
18kX41,66=749,88 (750)
The metric system was first put into practice in 1799 during the Great French Revolution, and today is a generally accepted international system where the composition of pure precious metals is determined. The highest precious metal sample in the metric system is 999.9.
e.g in the case of 585 test of precious metal, 1kg contains 585g of pure gold and 415g of ligature (585+415=1000).
Karat offers precious metal punching service, metal punching will be done with a laser device. According to international standards. Here you can put a sample on items made of gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.
